What first drew you to Under the Oaks for your wedding ceremony?
Something that was important to me was not only having a stunning venue but working with people who were kind and welcoming. When I was doing research for my wedding day, I saw many companies who seemed to be very “transactional”. I found Under the oaks and decided to send an email. Almost immediately I received a response and asked to set up a phone call. After talking to Danielle, I knew this was where I wanted to get married!!!
From the start, you embraced a DIY wedding approach—how did you bring that vision to life? Tell us about your colors, décor, and the personal touches that made the ceremony uniquely yours.
Last year, I started an event planning business with my best friend, I quickly learned that a lot of the things we all want at a wedding can be made at home!!! Not only does it turn out cute, it’s more personal and hold greater memories.
When it came to my vision on how I wanted my day to look, I took a lot of inspiration from looking at photos on Pinterest and scrolling on Instagram. I decided on the “coastal pastel” vibes. I mapped out what I wanted, what I needed and how I could make that happen. Than I start by going to my favorite place, the craft store!!!!
From creating my own garland, putting letters on mirrors and even building a champagne wall. All of these things were more then just items, they were experiences that I got to create with my Mom, my husband and friends.
With your event-planning background, how did that expertise help you coordinate the day—organizing décor, rallying family and friends, and keeping everything on track?
My experience helped me tremendously. Planning an event is hard! There are many details and even the smallest ones can not be overlooked. Thankfully, I have a great support system that helped me every step of the way. I’m used to being the one helping my brides stay focused and motivated, it was a very different feeling when it came to being about me! After coordinating a few weddings, I knew the steps that needed to be taken and where I needed to start. A slight difference I challenged myself with was to plan and execute this wedding in 4 weeks!!!! If it wasn’t for the great relationships I made, this wouldn’t have been possible.
What practical tips or lessons learned would you share with other DIY couples planning their ceremony at Under the Oaks?
Don’t be afraid to do the daunting task. Everything seems like it’s going to be difficult but when you have a vision trust your gut and bring it to life! I have created champagne walls, custom lights, personalized bows and custom boutiques and so much more of these “impossible to do on my own” things! It takes work but with a little faith, you can get it done! And don’t be afraid to ask for help! There are people out there who are willing to help and work with you to bring these ideas to life. My favorite part of DIYs is that it is something you can say YOU did!!! Rewarding and beautiful, the greatest combo!
Thinking back on the big day, which spot on the property felt most special or created your favorite photo moment?
Wow, how can I pick one!?! To the pergola, the trees and the details like the chandeliers, everything was beautiful. You’d never think such a whimsical oasis would be hidden in the city of Tampa! If I had to pick one, I’d say the pergola as an alter was absolutely stunning and perfect for some stunning photos.
If you could do it all again, would you do anything differently?
Honestly, I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. The things that happen, good or bad are all part of a greater purpose and create the perfect story. At the end of the day, I was marring my best friend and that’s all that mattered to me. If anything, it would be wishing I had met Danielle and Ron and Under the Oaks sooner!!
In closing, how would you describe your experience at Under the Oaks? Were there any standout moments, surprises, or details that really stayed with you after the day was done?
From the moment I found Under the Oaks, the energy I received was extraordinary positive and I immediately knew, I needed to get married here. From the first phone call with Danielle, I never felt like I was just another bride. I had someone who wanted my wedding to succeed as much as I did. By being my cheerleader with each photo I sent, answering any questions I had at any time of the day and taking the time to know me as a person, I couldn’t have asked for a better situation. And Danielle’s husband, Ron! - By taking the time to talk through my ideas while going on a tour and providing suggestions along the way, it solidified my choice in wanting to have my wedding here. On my wedding day, a moment I will never forget was when I was about to walk down the aisle, Ron helped in telling me when it was my time to go. I remember wanting to ball my eyes out because these people I had just met a few weeks ago, cared about helping me and not just providing the space! I truly mean it when I say, Under the Oaks is one of the kind and I recommend everyone to at least take a look when your planning a wedding, you will not regret it.
And, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have made my experience so pleasant and I know whatever events I have in the future, Under the Oaks will be my first choice!
